Railroad Dump Pile - Over 50 blob insulators, my first bottle, + another day's dig

Haven't posted in this section in a while, but I did some nice digging this week. On Saturday I dug a street tear-out and recovered $10.00 in clad, a 1944 Wheatie, and a 1953 Roosie (my first silver). Also dug a bunch of trash.

I went out to the woods heading to an old railroad dump pile where a bridge was torn down in 1922 and rebuilt and they left everything there, and also dumped light posts there back in the 50's. This part of the railroad was abandoned in the 80's I believe and is private property. Spent some time there scoping everything out. There has been vandals out there spray painting and such. I've been out there before and recovered over 50 blob top insulators, 6 ceramic (porcelain) insulators, lots of clear ones, and other odds and ends. Also got old spikes and such (the older ones not the modern ones). Well we were out there and I found my first bottle.

Yep thats right. A 2012 Glass Pepsi Bottle. I am sure that is giving me good signs for when I start dump digging.

Well back to the railroad dump, i've gotten a hold of my friend (BTW This is private property secluded in the woods, and I am got permission and what not. (about 3/4 mile in the woods) and we are going to start digging there again. It frustrates me to see vandals out destroying history. There is a hill that went up to the old railroad tracks as seen here:

(this is the other side, not where everything is)

Here is a pole we pulled out this week, got a intact insulator, the rest are busted:

where all the poles were just dumped off the train car and rolled down the hill. Then buried with broken asphalt pieces, and all other railroad iron junk. We are planning a trip next weekend out there to start digging fox holes (Talked to the property owner again and he said no problem if I come back out, I can come when ever I want. He said he hopes I get it all so they can't keep destroying it ((Obviously its hard to guard the woods)) )

Well im hoping to gear up and be ready to go next weekend. Hoping to get as much stuff out of there as possible. Only problem is not getting cut and getting injured due to the steep hill and all the railroad ties, telephone poles, and metal cargo straps. Theres also signs out there, I recovered this one (this one isn't too old) :

Most of the signs are completely roached or not worth the time (green signs that were by the tracks for signals, etc.) but I hope once we start moving more things, we will find the old, and historical artifacts. Theres still areas we haven't touched yet. It's going to be tons and tons of work, but it's going to pay off saving all the history that is rotting away.

looks like a fun dig.

Looks like you are well on your way to saving some very interesting history. Good luck.

Saving history is why I do this. Great work !
