Looks like the tree grew around a fence post. Even the rail hole still intact. And then again it looks like the fence post could have been nailed to the tree as well. Anything on the other side of the tree?

No the tree is in the middle of a field… it’s like someone a long time ago propped it there and forgot it … hence very English 😂 View from other angle ..

Now it would sell better with dried sheafs of wheat/barley stuck in those holes.

How many guesses can we have?
1. End of a fence line
2. Tree was straddling a property line
3. Anchor for temporary livestock pen
I would think 1 & 2 would have generated another post to turn a corner or continue ahead.
I also think I've been cooped up in home quarantine too long causing over analysis disease.
