I found this several years ago in Minnesota. I was told by another collector that it is a very rare shaft straightener but I find that hard to believe because I think it would have to be used for 1000s of years to make the indentation. The indentation is almost perfectly round and is as smooth as a babies bottom (lack of a better term).

What are your opinions? Anyone ever seen or heard about one of these?

Also, the opposite side of this little knife is pretty sharp.

It's quite common that artifacts have been made with natural flaws in the material like fossil inclusions... You have to actually think about how they are made those inclusions are not visible when the individual started reducing a piece of stone.

Yep, I think it could go either way. I may send this one to my home states Archeological department and have them examine it. I would like to know wither way...or maybe an authenticator could examine it under magnification and tell if it is natural???

I enjoyed this post and all the knowledge on this forum. Thanks for sharing.

you just made my whole day. i was telling my brother that the new hammering tool i found is like a native swiss army knife. seems to have been made to have 3 or more functions. it seemed odd to me that this hammering tool would have a shaft straightening notch on it also, but there it is. why wouldn't indians be into multi tasking? we're not the first to invent that idea, obviously.
