Dug this up fairly recently about two months ago. At a very old very small park in a village 5 min. from my house. The park is on the 1873 historical map of the area. But it probably dates back 50 years earlier as you can see from the dates of the finds. I was very excited about these finds there as it made the park very promising. This is the best and rarest button I have found to date. Sadly the next time I went there the code enforcer chased me off yelling at me and threatening a 500 dollar fine. I told were to go as I have lived here my whole life. So I left, but not before I told him he could write all the tickets he wants I would not except them or contract with him by signing them or give him my ID. I have not gone back to that park. I may do some night hunts there..lol.
But I did save these two beauties
Henry Clay started the Wig party in 1834. Ran and lost to Andrew Jackson. He ran for the presidency in 1824, 1832 and 1844
This button was from his final bid in 1845
The Wigs became the Republicans after Clays death in 1852
The Large cent was found about two feet away from the button and is the same year as the button.
Maybe there was a big scuffle at a rally and the button was ripped off some guys coat and a drunk dropped the large cent.
