Had a couple hours to hunt today. I decided to finally try the Nox at my Nova site. (Last year at this site, Nova, NJ Copper and KG’s) It is a super overgrown field that I barreled down last year to be able to swing the coil.

I didn’t have time to barrel today, so just hit the deer paths and bedding areas. I was hoping the Nox would find some targets my Garrett missed. The Nox has been great at mid tones. Got a handful of keepers and a couple buttons.

The one button has 13 stars so I sent a pic to Steve to see if it might be military related. He texted back that it is a Rattlesnake Button, Revolutionary War period!

Here are the pics I sent.

I’m still blown away that significant 1700’s coins and relics can be found within 10 minutes of my house, awesome hobby!!

Need to figure out if I should try to remove some of the clay and crust on the button.

Good luck out there!

Killer Button in great shape. The dirt has been kind to it over the 200+ years. Its a banner in my book!

Nice work Thad, that button's a killer! Banner!

Best wishes and good luck!

Those are great finds. The Rattlesnake button is a Banner in my book! That site appears to be very very good.

Thx! It was one of those dots on an old map that looked like a low priority target. Too close to a major modern road, Google Earth looked like it had gone through some grading and when I finally did a scouting trip the actual dots was inaccessible due to 6’ weeds, briars and saplings. On that first scouting hunt I was only able to hit the perimeter along the road, but came away with a LC, flat buttons and a 3 cent nickel. That was enough motivation to work out a strategy to gain access to the actual home site. Definitely looking forward to putting some more hours with the Nox to see what else is hidden in the dirt.

Wow! You're killing it! Congratulations!:occasion14:

Great finds my friend awesome button Banner Banner Banner

Fantastic button. It really is amazing how much history is waiting to be found that is literally underneath our feet. Congratulations!

Thx Coinman! I let it dry out. Then most of the dirt flaked pretty easily. Pretty happy with how it turned out.

Wow!!! That really cleaned up great! I love that green color, pretty rare to dig colonial buttons in that good condition, let alone one so rare!

Thad,

I think you should add your cleaned up pic to your original post.
P.S. There is a rattlesnake button thread on the My Best Finds Forum. I posted mine there.

I think the time limit for editing has past, but here is another pic with Renaissance Wax applied, brings out more of the green patina.

High on my want list! Congrats on what I consider a BANNER button all day long. Much prefer a rattlesnake button to a GW

Agreed. Id say we see more GW buttons posted though some varieties are probably rarer and correct me if Im wrong but these date a little earlier as well plus they look cooler

Congratulations on a great find.
