i found one just like it in long branch,nj thought it was brass spike for sail ship...

Yes, those are ships spike and ships lead or copper sheathing nail. They are made of bronze. Any marks on them? British ships had a broadhead arrowhead stamped in the head, on the side. They used those for many years, so it is hard to date from just what you have.

These are plentiful on some NJ beaches. As cool as they are, when hunting for other treasure (IE the Reales that came off the same ship) they become a PIA. I mean, how many undated, undocumented bronze ship nails do you need? Nevermind, beats finding Corona bottle caps.
