Recent finds 7/27 - 7/30

This is everything I found from three hunts on three different sites in two states, Va and Wv. We have had probably 4 inches of rain in the last week, it's really exposing and cleaning up alot of flint. Imo the larger stone tool is a bone sharpening stone, underneath that is either a hammerstone or discoidal, and below that is a uniface tool of some sort with at least one graver tip. After finding alot of dinged up triangles I got lucky and found three quality pieces. The largest stemmed point appears to be fluted, not sure of the type? The yellow to red material is new to me, I dont know if it's jasper or chert? It was all concentrated in a small area. Still raining hard here, cant wait to get back and see what else gets exposed, thanks for looking, have a good one.

Ok, I have to make a couple comments. 1 the clouds in the first pic are gorgeous. It would have been worth it just to see them. 2 your avatar pic is beautiful! now for the meat of the post. Wow! what a day you had. amazing finds.

Appreciate the comments, kind lady. I like the storm clouds too, even if they did open up with torrential rain that forced me to leave.

That first picture is awesome, thirty7! That point (in pic #6) does look fluted!
Is there a creek nearby that you can look, too? That field may be enough to keep you busy for awhile, though!

Hey sandcreek, the creek is to the right just out of the pic, there is also a spring that comes out of the hill to the left. Towards the headwaters of the creek is a salt lick that brought in all the large game animals. There is also the remnants of an stone fort, some of the breastwork still remains today, and artifacts in numbers are plowed up and found all along this valley. You're right though, I need to slowly walk up that creek, I'm thinking in August when it's way down and too hot in the fields. Thanks for the comment.

What a beautiful site. It looks like it was used for a long time by many cultures. Lots of tools. Always nice to see a perfect triangular (hamilton?) These storms should keep the artfacts rolling out. Have you ever noticed how smooth and free of rocks the really good sites are? The ancients liked a comfortable living room. Nice hunt. Good luck when you go back 37.

Thanks for the comments. I think they are Hamiltons too. I have noticed that the productive areas of many of the sites I hunt are nice and clean of rocks. It seems like many of my better field finds show up isolated from rocks. There is one nearby group of creek tumbled pebbles and cobbles in this field and I 've yet to find anything in there, not even a flake. I always get that good feeling when I start seeing debitage free from rocks in mud or sand. That's a really good point actually Tn, and could be valuable to the beginning hunters. great finds Thirty7!a very nice haul.that first pic is too cool.that material looks like red jasper and it may be patinated yellow jasper in the other pieces in that pic.you got to love the rain.I am hitting it hard today.good luck at that spot.
