I’m afraid that the coin is toasted beyond recognition. Soaking in olive oil overnight hasn’t helped and most of the surface has pitted away.
The bottom item was found in the same field as the coin. I didn’t recognize it at first, but there was a bell ringing in my head (not to be confused with the voices in my head). Thanks to my years of shooting a replica 50cal Hawkins flintlock, I recognized it as the screw for the upper jaw that holds the flint in place. No idea how old, pictures of Brown Bess don’t match. Probably an American hunting rifle.
