Could someone recommend the best AA rechargeable batteries and charger for a Whites Dual Field. The disposable type are now ridiculously expensive
Thanks,
Tom

Just a thought, but you might want to consider having your Dual Field modded to accept an external Excal type rechargeable battery pod. My Dual Field is mounted on an Anderson Travel Straight Shaft, which has mounting clips between the arm cuff and grip, also has mounting clips behind the arm cuff. I have the control box mounted behind the arm cuffs to counterbalance the coil, and the Excal style rechargeable battery mounted using the clips between arm cuff and grip.

This way, you won't have to open the lid to replace or remove batteries to recharge. Every time the top lid is removed, the waterproof seal is broken, and all it takes is to have a grain of sand or small piece of dirt on the O ring to potentially cause a leak. Once you get a good, tight waterproof seal, best to leave it that way IMO. BTW, the Excal type battery on my DF isn't a stock Excal battery, it uses the Excal battery pod housing, but the batteries used are larger than stock, also includes a circuit board to protect the batteries from overcharging.

I use and recommend Energizer.

Those are good. I use Energizer Lithium's in my Sovereign. They last a lot longer than Alkaline's and as a bonus, my control box was a lot lighter using Lithium's. Only negative is that they're on the pricy side.

They are worth the extra IMO.

Yeah, I totally agree, only mentioned that they are pricier as the OP stated that disposable batteries are ridiculously expensive, so wanted him to be aware. But IMO, the additional cost is outweighed by a lithium's much longer life. And unlike Alkaline's, where the voltage continually declines until there's not enough voltage left to power the detector, lithium's work at full voltage until the battery is totally spent, so you get every electron that battery has to give. To help keep the cost as low as I can, I buy the big packs of Energizer Lithium's at BJ's.

But the added and much appreciate additional benefit of Lithium's is that they weigh a LOT less than Alkaline's. My Sovereign with Alkaline batteries is pretty heavy, but with Lithium's, there's a very noticeable reduction in weight, making it much more comfortable when pouch mounted around my neck.
