So, I was feeling like I would like to find something old today.

I went to a place where I knew that anything at all would be tough to find.
But, I figured that after the long period of rain we had, the ground halos might
just be a lil easier to discern.

I stayed on deeper, more iffy signals today. Wanted to see if I'd lost my "ear".

Apparently, I haven't. Didn't find a whole lot but that was part of the plan. Also,
what I did manage to dig were all down between 7-12 inches. The signals had a
pattern. They'd start out between 40-50, sometimes, just an iron grunt. But, after
removing the top layers, they almost all moved up to between 56 - 85.

The 2nd part of the plan for the day was to keep it old and interesting. I believe
I accomplished that too. AND....almost every piece has clues for identification!
That is something I always enjoy! Faceless coppers, no detail pieces of whatever
are just not much fun for me.

First up was this brass combo:

A full 12 inches down and I just figured, neat....a hose clamp! :BangHead:
But! After I got it home, it had a slight surprise for me. A hint about it's origins.

2017 (686).webp
2017 (685).webp

All three parts came out as one piece. 1890!?!? :icon_scratch:

This next piece really caused a smile for me on several levels:

2017 (687).webp

This thing was a whisper at about 6 inches!
It's a painted lead horse and it is soooo tiny!!
Made me feel like the ole ear still has some sharp to it! 8-)

2017 (688).webp

This one....I was VERY happy that it was an "eyeball" find!
I suspect if I had dug this, I might would still be lying out there. :tongue3:

2017 (689).webp

This one showed me just how harsh the soil I was digging in was on nickles! :dontknow:

2017 (690).webp

Only half a story here, there was evidence of the rest in the hole but it had long since disintegrated.
Still, even it is trying to hint at it's identity.

2017 (691).webp

Dog tag? The other side is no help. :dontknow:

2017 (692).webp

Pistol ball?

2017 (693).webp

Strange brass piece. Thumbscrew? :tongue3:

2017 (694).webp

Even this piece is trying to give us a hint! LOL

Lastly, there's this small button.
I'm not familiar with the design.

There is a backmark, but, I am having trouble reading it.

2017 (697).webp
2017 (695).webp
2017 (696).webp

I think it says "ROBINSONS" across the top.
Feel free to guess! :dontknow:

2017 (683).webp

Anyway, mission accomplished. Even found a "coin" ! LOL

If you've made it this far, you either *really* like to read,
or you're like me. If one doesn't have a life, they have to
fill it up with something. :tongue3:

Thanks for peeking!

What a journey, you done well, you found some neat ole relics. Enjoyed the journey.

First pic is the female bib from a fire hose and a hose clamp
The thumb screw piece I think is the locking mechanism from a small wood plane

..: Very interesting finds WhadIFind :..
Thanks for sharing!

Looks like a very nice hunt...lots of oldies there..Congrats !!

Whadi, this one looks to have the first iniitials of a name (J. E. BA) and the first few letters of a city or town (BLUE) maybe somewhere near where you dug it. Possibly a dog tag or luggage tag?

This one, with some cleaning, may become identifiable. The bottom line appears to be the misspelled borough of "Brucklyn, NY." (Brooklyn) Great relic day for you, congrats. Sub 8-)

Nice collection of old scraps makes for some interesting research. Anything with letters or numbers gives me some joy that I can go home and try to figure out what it is. Looks like you found a few of these "whatsits" that make me appreciate our history.:icon_thumright:

On the thumbscrew item, I cleaned up the engraving a bit:

2017 (699).webp

On the 2nd pic I enhanced and then inverted the colors.
Hope it helps.
I'm not sure if the name at the top is a brand or someone's personal
name stamped into the piece.

Looks like a patent tag from 1878 Nice
Now that I see the size of the bib it can't be a fire hose But it is a disconnect from a smaller hose and hose clamp Same vintage. Probably was all combined at one time if you found it in the same place. e.g. the patent tag is for the hose assembly. My guess

FISHY SAYS I WANT TO RIDE THE PONY, AND BLINGIE SAYS WOW I JUST GOT A SCHOLARSHIP TO PLAYING BASEBALL.

Neat finds.. Jeff of Pa the research guru wont be to far behind. He'll have some suggestions.

W (for Wilson) Bohannan is the name, who made a lot of railroad locks.
added: patent 208708 was granted to him that day for a latch, but I can't find specifics yet.

Wow! That's better research than I could do! Thanks!
I was more interested in identifying the button. Looks like this piece may be more interesting!

Your button, with what I agree is Robinsons (important that it's plural for the ID) would date to the 1840's (possibly just a bit earlier depending on the rest of the backmark). This was the later part of the "Golden Age" of gilt buttons, many of which featured geometric patterns like this.

Interesting array of relics!
And a coin snuck in there too.
Congrsts!
Your senses haven't left you.

Blingie has his shinny.
Fishy maybe giving the pony a ride, they can both hop in one if his many autos.

I like the thumb screw item and the button.
The tag looks like it was in service for a while from the wear in the top hole.
Great day of finding and foraging forward! Nicely done!
