Hello All,

Hill Billy and I went out for a little old-style housesite hunting. We found three new spots out walking the woods and beating the brush today. First spot I dug zinc jar lid after zinc jar lid. I know I dug at least a dozen--and it sounds like HB dug a bunch of 'em too. Got a couple of interesting relics... Reign guides, a tiny piece of a harmonica reed, a cool old brass drawer handle, an odd piece of decorative brass (I have a hunch it's half of a small, two-piece buckle), and a really cool heel plate with a star cut-out. I was pretty stoked to find it. The plate appears to have been worn a LONG time, since the back of it is quite thin. Here are the photos of one of the spots we found. The cellar hole is amazing (I'm sure HB will dig it out and see what's there). It's pretty darned deep, but incredibly well-preserved. I think HB is mesmerized by it in the photo. :D

And here's one of the old wells we found. This wasn't the deepest one, but they were all uncovered on the sites.

Will, what a beautiful swimming hole you found! :D That is one pretty cellarhole foundation and Well, just don't fall in..........

I think the heel plates are such wonderful display items, I think I see quite a few found from the CW era hunters, that must have been the peak time of their use. The star shaped one is great, and a heart shaped one would be a nice compliment to that one. Good Hunt.

The heel plate would look good in anyone's collection BB.Nice dig's at an awesome looking site.Congrat's and HH!!

Nice, congrats!!

Great pic! The heel plate is awesome...thanks for sharing your day!

Nice finds BB. I love those site pics.

Nice finds so fare but there's gotta be more there!

That would be my luck as a homesteader: flooded cellar and dry well. :laughing7:

I wanted to get in and dig that cellar.Guess I'll have to wait. The well is full of water it's just 20 ft down to the water surface.

I wonder if that cellar is ever free of water...it was kinda mucky when we were up there though. The other cellar has some potential too--finds were newer there, and there was that piece of Mother's Oats green Depression glass there... Plus the privy at that site too...

If you ever need a hand in the digging, let me know. I'm hesitant to dig a well out, but I'd be happy to help in anything else.

That is one neat spot, I'd be back a 100 times searching, neat stuff ya found there!

Nice spot and great relics!! Anybody know what that flat piece on the right in the picture is? I've found a few of those and I haven't yet figured out what they are. Well Done!!

Those are awesome finds...I have never seen a star heel plate. Very well done and great pix!

It is funny too my friend showed me some of his whatzits a few weeks back and he had 2 heart shaped heel plates in the box. I told him what they were but have been unable to find any published values. He likes to log his finds on that metal detecting software and put in the value. The one he found is like it has never been used. No wear at all. Are these worth anything?

As far as I know, they aren't worth much. Although every site that I've seen them on, they've been sold already. Many sites link them to the CW in order to sell them, but that's a difficult sale as far as I'm concerned. Most examples were probably for civilian use. The most frequent one I've seen is the heart cut-out. I've never seen the star, but I have seen one example of a clover cut-out before. All I know is that this is my first one in 16 years, so I'm pretty excited about it. So it seems like they don't come out of the ground all that often.

very nice finds. looks like you'll be busy this year.

Great post & pictures BB.
Congrats on the heel plate. Never saw a star one before. I have a heart one, but it is small like a woman's size heel.
That stone well looks just like the one in the woods at the plantation house I'm hunting. I'd love to know what's down there but scared
sh-tless to even try. I keep thinking of Copperhead snakes being in there. :o :o :o
Way to go!!!

I'd almost forgotten about those danged Copperheads. In the mountains in Virginia where I grew up they were a Real threat. Had one strike at my searchcoil once in the woods. I put my foot on it's head until it stopped thrashing about.

Cool digs! Looks like an awesome spot...can't wait to see what comes out next!

congrats on the finds BB. You two have a great looking site and had a fun hunt together as well. BTW that flat thing on the right looks to me like a part off a clock, like an alarm clock. I have found one just this past weekend that looks almost exact and have found other parts as well. Even found the back plate that shows the company "Waterbury Clock Company". Crazy thing is that I find these parts in all different sections of my spot.

Congrats again and HH

Nice finds, looks like you and your partner had a nice day of detecting and water hunting. LOL

If you guys need a sub-pump, let me know I got an extra one. LOL

Thanks for the post and great pictures, really like the heal plate. I have several of them I found here in
Ohio relic hunting.
