'Reservoir Park - Silver Earring & 1900 Barber Dime!
Hello Tnet Friends,
I've been in London, Ontario on business for a couple of days this week and decided to get out to one of the many old parks here in town. In speaking with a few of the locals, I found out there were a number of skirmishes between the American and British troops, which were based here during the War of 1812. One of the largest confrontations took place here on August 14, 1812 in a now heavily wooded area called Reservoir Park (see the picture of the plaque for the full story).
I started by hunting a number of picnic areas finding numerous coins and the junk eagle ring. I don't know what it is with me and pine trees, but I've always found good stuff under them!
I was hunting under one pine and out popped the .925 earring. After hunting the park area it was starting to get warm so I decided it was time to hit the woods and find me some 1812 buttons musket parts and musket balls . . . to make a long story short I didn't find either!
After doing my mountain goat impression for an hour climbing up and down the wooded hills, I noticed a rocky rain runoff area down a hill through the woods. I thought, maybe the rains had washed down a musketball or two for me to find?
About half way up I got a solid high signal, moved a couple of rocks out of the way and out popped a 1900 Barber Dime!
I still can't believe the number of US silver coins I'm finding here in Canada! My last find was about 30' of old copper wire, I had to trace it back through the trees to get it all wound up!
Best of luck to everyone!
Dave
