I'm not a big fan of restoring relics but I got a few things from a fire site and they were pretty much toast so I decided to restore them a bit. Not to much, just so there recognizable. The compact was a challenge. I removed the broken mirror, gently hammered out he dents, took it apart and replaced the mirror with a 19th century piece of mirror, also used a little 000 steel wool and polish. The "Buck Jones" Pin I just used the steel wool and polish. When I'm done with the site I'm going to put them in a shadow box. How did I do??

Nice work. Now you'll have to print up some business cards!

I always get nervous hearing someone talking about "restoration" work they did on an item. But....you did a great job in my opinion.

Just a little #000 steel wool and some brass cleaner. I work in a glass company and every once and a while someone comes in and wants to replace a mirror in an antique frame so I save the old mirror. I think the pieces retain there integrity but they are recognizable. I have a few more pieces to clean up. I will post the results soon. Just a note: I didn't even know what the "Buck Jones" piece was until Bondjamesbond told me what he thought i was. It pays to double check and clean up your trash pieces. This was a collectible given away in "Post Grape Nuts" in 1937!!!!

When you can make them look better like that, I say go for it!
