I tried a local small town bank half dollar search on Saturday.

My results on Half dollars were as follows:
Out of $642.50 in Half dollars
2 - 1968-D
3 - 1969-D
1 - 1984-S Proof

Though about $200 were in rolls from my last stop which was not a small town branch but a branch bank on my way home and about 80% of those were marked on the rim as if they'd been previously searched (only 1 40% in those rolls).

At around 10:45 AM I had $420 in half dollars, but no more cash. By the time I did a quick search and cashed them in at the nearest bank that would take them, all the small banks were closed. Too bad, had to leave the other $650 in halves at the last bank. Maybe in a couple of weeks I will have a chance to go back.

Lessons learned:
1) Bring more cash next time
2) Saturday is not the best day, banks close too early and/or the teller in charge of the vault is sometimes not available.

So since I wasn't near the bank branches I frequent the most, I ended up picking up a 3 boxes of pennies and a box of nickels in addition to the last $200 in half dollars as I was heading home.

Here are the results:

looks like you stayed pretty busy with your penny searches though. Nice totals.

Well, finally got around to Box 3 today. And in the second roll.. an Indian head penny.

And today while cashing in most of the coins from this weekend, found a 1972 Canadian Quarter in the reject slot of the coin counting machine.

Whoa! Did you check for an S on that 1908? Great find regardless, wheats too.

Checked, double checked, and then tried magnification just in case..... but to no avail. :P

Fills a hole in my indian head book though. :)

Tell me...how bad do the banks hate you?

As far as I can tell, they don't. Well at least they don't know that they do.

I live near in a suburb of the Twin cities and have accounts with a few large banks with many branches.
Within the combination of roughly a 6 mile radius from work, a 6 mile radius from home, as well as my commute between the two, I have about 15 different branches I can stop at. And those are just the banks with which I have accounts. Add probably 15-30 more with which I don't have accounts in the same general vicinity.

And if I am out and about either during the week or on Saturday morning outside of my normal range, I try to cash in and pick up more since they see me very irregularly. In those cases I might buy say 2 or 3 boxes at a time instead of just one.

I tried counting once and I believe in and around the twin cities there are like 120 branches of the banks I have accounts with and oodles more that I do not. Since they never record who they are selling coins too, they just think I get a box or two every month, no big deal. And for cashing in, I try to stay to the ones with the self serve coin counting machines so the tellers don't hate me. I try to cash in 3-4 boxes at a time (about one canvas bag full) so they don't see me as often. I also try to cash in most frequently at the couple of branches that won't let me buy boxes without charging me a fee. Essentially charging them a fee for not allowing me to buy coins without paying a fee.
