I made a follow up visit to the 18th century house site I found recently.

Still probing the extent of the site, but it appears to be right at the corner of a recently plowed field and extending into a couple hay fields with fairly high grass right now. The farmer just planted clover in the plowed field, but says I can continue to hunt there. I don't think there is much left to be found in the plowed area, since I have hit it pretty hard. I might have to wait till winter to give the grassy areas a good going over.
Here is the take from this past weekend. Two coppers - worn KG III and an 1826 Large cent that is probably associated with the later house on this farm, a real nice keg spigot key (my first with a diamond shaped end), cufflink, and some buttons, plus a couple later items from a different part of the field.

This broken button has a hand etched design, but the unique thing about it is the shank was never drilled. My theory is that someone bought a group of loose buttons from a peddler to sew onto a homemade garment, and this one was discarded because it was defective.

The next two finds came from another part of the field with a small concentration of early 20th century stuff.
An interesting token from a small coal mining company town that had it's heyday in the early 1900s. An explosion in the mine at Marianna killed 154 miners on August 12, 1908.

Here is a vintage picture of the Marianna Hotel from 1909.

And this item that appears to be some type of clasp, maybe for a book? There is still cloth sandwiched between the two sides. I could use some help on this piece.
