Rev War Axe Head With Early British Copper Fused To It

Stupid question on fusing, what would they do, just attach coin while ax was still hot and copper would thus melt too it? Great job too...I would assume it was a way to identify who the users ax was....

Ha Ha...no the coin fused to the axe head from being underwater for 200+ years.

You wouldn't think a copper coin would look like that after being in the water for so long. Interesting find.

But what are the odds of that? Ax failing /resting in the water or coin resting stuck to the ax? Or where you searched it was once dry...

Totally awesome find ! Perhaps the axe and coin were in a satchel bag ,or similiar bag that rotted away?:dontknow:...How deep were you diving?

Well I nominated it for banner... GREAT JOB and effort....

Awesome addition to the collection. Always enjoy your posts.
What state are u in?

The axe and copper together is a very cool find! Nice cannonball and sling buckle too. I'm sure you know the history as far as what activity occurred in the area you are diving. I was wondering why you feel that is a Rev War find and not War of 1812?

That is just flat out cool 8-) Congrats on an unusual find !!

When a boat load of stuff goes into the water, lots of things sit next to each other.

It's a cool display piece, leave it as is!

Yes I am going to leave it just as it is. It has been treated with a thick coat of conservaters wax so it should last for another 200 years.

I know what you mean about the 'gold' thought. I've had a few copper items from the Thames mud & thought gold. What is amazing is watching it instantly discolour in the air as you hold it.

super finds there cannonball...buckle ...
but i was blown away to see the coin fused to the axe head, that is classic,i would try to keep it the way it is too by my crazy curiosity would always tempt me to see what the date was..super finds wtg!!!

Another amazing find from the cold, cold river!
