I know these are hard to get a accurate date on because they were used for so long but I’m going with late 1700’s because of where i found it. I went back today to a shoreline spot where me and a buddy in the past found probably around 30 george iii half penny’s between us in a fairly small area that looked like it would have been a good row boat boat slip spot in the past. There was no other sign of anything newer than late 1700’s to very early 1800’s at that location. We felt we cleaned it out before but today I went back and rolled some big rocks and got a great signal. After digging the targets out i found half of a lion's head buckle and a piece of lion head sling buckle for a sword belt. When the tide is lower some other time and i can make it back I’m hoping to find the rest lower down. The sea was hard on them but in person it looks nice and there is even some spots with a bit of gold gilt left on it. One little piece my buddy found before in the same spot is added to the picture. Its the smallest piece of the sling buckle. When i told him about the find he gave me the other piece to keep. Thanks for looking and some input and any info is appreciated on it! [emoji2][emoji106]

Awesome buckle :notworthy:

Very nice recovery, it'll look great in a display.

Great save..the water and sand would eventually eat this neat relic up..

Super find!

Thanks. The most important part is its a unique new addition to my finds collection! [emoji2]
It may clean up better yet but for right now I’m just going to leave it as is! [emoji106]

Absolutely - something new is always the most important part. BTW - A buddy in Maine uses cold peroxide soaks to loosen his maritime crud. I prefer this as well because it’s gentle as can be.

Killer finds! If they could only talk to tell their tales!

Thanks everyone. I wish spring would just hurry up already! [emoji2]

Very cool buckle mate. Glad you can get a sight to hunt in the dead of winter. Well done.

Thanks. Some warmer weather is coming off and on now for a bit for me but I’m still stuck to the coastline for now. Im hoping this big rain coming will be enough to soften up the ground! [emoji106]
