Rev War site find with Star (upstate NY)

Found this item with a star on it today on private land with permission on the edge of a major Rev War encampment north of New York City. It rang up as copper, but appears like lead and is heavy. Some type of bracket or clamp perhaps. The nail is old, but I can't tell if this is 18th century or 19th century. Thoughts?

Interesting bergie - can't wait for someone to identify it. The Star makes ya think Confederate though...

Thats a Kewl find, I know They put Stars on Many things back in them days, I'm in the Southern Tier of N.Y. Near Endicott N.Y. I think I found a small Cal. Musket Ball yesterday near a local River?

Can you clean it up some and then post new photos?

you got me on that one! i have no idea. it does look old. cool find whatever it is.

I don't think that's lead. I think it might be Bronze. Looks like a greenish patina underneath the oxide.

Nice digging [don't know what it is ] but finding anything with readable writing or symbols [such as your star] is always cool...
