Green1 is right! It's the One Ring of Power from J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings.

The writing is Tengwar (Elvish) script, one of a number of alphabets and languages which Tolkien created for his epic works.

The outside of the ring reads:
"One Ring to rule them all,
One Ring to find them..."

The inside of the ring reads:
"One Ring to bring them all
And in the darkness bind them."

Those "One Rings" may not be valuable, but they ARE expensive- I have a catalog that has a new one for $110.00.
Then again, if it is the REAL One Ring... Supreme Power!
Nice find!

The good news. That is one nice ring.
The bad news. Now you are in for one heck of a journey to get rid of it. Good Luck!!! :D

One way to see if it is authentic. Throw it into a fire and see if the letters glow a bright amber. I would have said if it calls to you and is all you desire but I think the holder goes into a trance or something like that and isn't fully aware that it is actually happening to him.

Hehe... Interesting find though...

Sherm, I am a BIG fan of Lord of the Rings. That is a great find! If you have not read the books or caught the movies, I would suggest it. You might find it to be an enjoyable experience.
