Five hour water hunt today. After an hour in the surf with zero targets , I discovered that I had turned my volume knob down to zero. [emoji30] After fixing that I dig a quarter right away. Then just 3 feet away I hear my second target , a deep low growl ! One scoop and I was looking at this beauty ! Sounded right , looks right , feels right , one problem..... ZERO hallmarks ! Nothing at all. Used a lit loop , and can't find a single mark anywhere. So for now I have to guess it's bling. I'll do an acid test tomorrow. To tired tonight. Tell me what you guys think. Is anything good ever not marked ? Or , does it look like obvious crappy bling to you ? Thanks for looking , and Happy Hunting ye scurvy dogs !

Just curious what beach you found that at down in the keys? I was down there last year and spent 7 days bouncing from beach to beach. Ended up with over 660 coins and 2 silver rings. I found one of the rings on the beach just outside our hotel. That was a great 7 days of hunting

This one wasn't found in the Keys. I'm actually in central FL. I lived in the Keys as a kid , and wish I still did !

Plenty good stuff is found without hallmarks. Sometimes they are shop made pieces; they may have voids, are not factory perfect. As noted above, there are other reasons hallmarks may be lacking. Other characteristics are more reliable.

One way to quickly check if a ring is gold, hallmarked or not, if it has multiple diamond-looking stones, is to shine a UV light on it. Chances are at least one of the stones will fluoresce under the UV if they are diamonds.

If the diamonds are real, then that gives you a lot of certainty that the ring is gold, even without any further testing.

Makes sense. I like the way you guys think. Quicker to check the stones. If they're good , then the metal should be too.

I've seen hallmarks disappear from wear, even without sand- just got a 14k gold and channel set baguette diamond cross at goodwill with the 14k mark totally smoothed in, could barely even make out what it used to say using a 10x loupe, but it tested good!

Stone tester came in today. After testing several known real diamonds , I tested the stones in this ring , annnnd their fake ! Gold acid tested good , so I was assuming the stones would be real. But , you can't win em all I guess.
