river detecting in colorado

I have a bounty hunter lonestar. Would yall use this in a colorado river? Most rivers here are either trash or lack metal of any sort but ive found one that flows past at least 1 "ghost town" site. Average 2 feet but goes to 6. Any suggestions for best spots in river? Im aware how gold travels down the river and have actually panned flake gold out of it. What method do the gurus here perfer?

This "guru" prefers using a diving detector (Whites Surf Master II) with the short dive handle, I walk on the bottom in scuba, no fins and work against the current. I use the current to carry away the overburden and hand fan my hits. If you are doing gold recovery, then get behind the boulders on the down stream side and remove the overburden to the bedrock and gold/coins/lead will deposit in the bedrock riffles. In New England if I am in a river and I start to find lead fishing weights then the coins and jewelery are in the same vicinity. I think gold and lead have similar specific gravities and arrive at the same location on the bottom, in my experience that is. Most of my better coin finds this year were in rivers between 5-12' deep and all were recovered with substantial amounts of fishing and scrap lead.

Same thing when I'm dredging for gold. When I hit the old square nails, then the lead (manufactured or galena) and big chunks of magnetite, the gold is very, very close. Riverdiver has given you great advice on where to look and how to do it.

iM IN cos too I would suggest that old gold town again. Looks like this weekend is snow in the Mtns. at B.V. wanted to go gold panning and some metal detecting.
