Maybe you never fought an Admiralty suit against him like I did!

Two people that influenced me growing up were Cousteau and Marx (Bob, not Carl). I'll miss his lectures at FAU. He led a heck of an adventurous life. RIP

In his own community, he's done all of us a huge service over the years by bridging the gap between adventure and academia. I've known him for over fifty years, worked with him in the field, and I think I might have published his last three books. Throughout that time he shared his own knowledge and resources with many, many of us and continually proved to be a source of inspiration, even into his late years. I will remember him well. Thank you Bob. You were one tough individual who lived as we all might want to live. RIP

Sad to hear. He was crusty but he helped me when I found a 1715 artifact. I used to attend his lectures at FIT and he was donating some of his finds to the school and putting them on display at the Ed Link center. Rest in Peace Robert.

Sadly, number 58 and 66 of his CV are not factual. He did not discover the Pilar in Guam, nor did he discover the Flor Del Mar in the Straits of Malucca. A very adventurous person who lost the ability to know fact from fiction.

Very sorry to read this. I was fortunate to get to talk to him several times.

He was a Marine, so I guess it's fitting that he passed away on the 4th of July. Semper Fi, Sir Robert.

Why isn't this bigger news? A great amount of info about him on the net but nothing about his death. After all of his acomplishments...

Alexandre,
Is this quote then in error?
"In September 1962, a crew of nine men boarded a replica of Columbus’ ship theNina, fittingly named the Nina II, and set sail from Spain and traveled to San Salvador.Serving as the ship’s navigator and the only American on board, Robert Marx, underwaterarcheologist and author, documented the 77 day crossing. After successfully making thecrossing, Robert Marx was made a Knight Commander in the Order of Isabella theCatholic by the Spanish government."

Bob was the angel and the devil. Many ghost shipwrecks and distorted information. On several occasions I verified information for investors on projects proposed by Bob and many did not correspond. But overall, he was one of the pioneers who did good and bad things.
