Rock bowl can you help?

Hello people can you help me with this interesting rock bowl... It's very sharp I even cut my fingers lifting it up. It was dirty so I washed it with water only from the hose. I'm totally clueless here. I bought a storage unit out and this was in it. There were also some interesting rocks but I gave those to my aunt to show her father in law. He's retired 92 year old geologist and I thought he could help with the smaller things. Yet this was too big and heavy and sharp! To ask her to cart around... Any info would be great. It wasn't like on storage wars I got to look in the units from a private seller and make him a offer. It was 3 generations of items. 2 generations of world travelers. So I bet this could be from anywhere. They had lots of items from the South Pacific islands. Yet many more items from all over the place so who knows... I'm in the antique business and interest in much of the unit. Anyway thanks ahead

Welcome to the site. Try putting it in the NA Artifact forum and see what they say. Is there sand in the bottom of it? If so wash it out so we can see the bottom as to its texture and if it shows grinding marks.

it does look like it was made from coral or fossilized coral...looks like a crude mano.

Looks like coquina.. a conglomerate type of stone made from sedimentary sea shells and other sea bed material.
Hard to say its use or origin.
The Spanish used it in Florida to build with..this entire fort was built in the late 1500's with blocks of it mined locally in St. Augustine.
Unless its light for its size and brittle then I would say it a large section of worm rock.
The live worms created entire reefs built layer after layer on top of the hard skeletons of the previous ..just like a coral reef.

Thanks for thoughts all... It's very heavy sharp as glass on edges if not carful I could cut myself again. I don't see seashells in it. It's very interesting. I thought it would be a nice way to display the rocks I also bought. But after cutting my fingers it changes the game where I would put the bowl. Once I get back the the rocks I'd be happy to share them with you all. It was annoying my friend hogging up a lot of the "pretty" ones while I was working and left me with less crystals.. People are so greedy

Well..its not glass and definitely a skeletal colony of sea life. It could be from anywhere from Florida to the Galapagos islands.
I don't know about your other rocks...but considering the history of use of that type material and the overall form it could easily be an artifact of some archaeological value.

Ok I looked at this again- it's not as heavy as I remembered. I guess I was very tired.

I think it's the worm rock it has layers after layer of holes.

Just don't use it as an ashtray. I have some 7,000 year old pottery that my girlfriend and I got from my bro several years back when she and I were working in Paris. Anyways, we had one of our usual dinner parties, by the end of the night one of the bowls was full of cigarette butts! Live and learn...

It still looks like a artifact of some kind weather it is heavy or not. Might be Pumice which would be a Indian related type of item. They used it for all types of bowls cause it was easy to carve.
