Probably cause he hadn't found "that" mine yet, and was still prospecting at the time.
After all, the LDM wasn't his first find.

BTW The sign on the North side of Florence says 65 Miles to Phoenix, the one on the South side says 65 miles to Tucson. Where did you get 100 miles?
