Looks newly poured. What is the weight? Does look like one. The story of how you got it is better than the gold itself to me.

To me , that bar seems a mix of copper and tin = bronze .

No, thats not a Dory bar.

Its a Nacho, or maybe a pickle but leaning more towards nacho.

Noting the ragged chips in these things, I would say they look like painted pieces of brick.

I agree with Markmar and KG - looks more like bronze, or maybe painted lead.

Here's a pic of 360 brass, also called 'free machining brass."

brassround.jpg

Its chemistry is:
Copper (Cu) 60 - 63%
Zinc (Zn) 35.5%
Iron (Fe) 0.35% min
Lead (Pb) 2.5 - 3.7%

Notice the heat of forming has given the bar a bronze-like look. I imagine the heat of melting and casting would have the same effect.

Rocker box ??

Gentlemen : What really got my attention over 40 years ago was the old germ asked a carpenter in Florence Az. to build him a rocker box. Please bear with me , if you have discovered one of the greatest gold deposit's known to human kind. Why in the hell do you need a rocker box ??. I devoted years of research trying to solve the BEALE CODES with no success. I have spent some time in the Supes found some placer & some Spanish memorabilia. My research has told me that the old carpenter followed the old Germ. & discovered not a gold mine but some rich placers in the Pinto Valley area. BLESS YOUR HEARTS.

Dry washer.....
There's a lot more to Waltz's history, especially his many years as a prospector in Arizona prior to settling down in Phoenix, that some seem to find confusing.
Sounds like your research has skipped over most of that history.....
When he died, it was rich gold ore from a mine that he left behind in the candle box.
Not placer gold.

Yup...Mitchell says it was a trib off Pinto Creek, for which Waltz gets the carpenter to make the rocker...actually described it as a "rocker" and "dry washer"...Storm says Waltz placered up around Goldfield...take your pick who was right, or neither...but they both say it was BEFORE he found the lode.
