It is an antique luggage/carpetbag/trunk "skid foot." Four (or more) were tacked onto the bottom of the luggage so it could be slid easily across a hard surface. Made of brass so they wouldn't leave a rust-stain on rugs/carpets, and were lead-filled to make them more resistant to crushng by the luggage's weight. They are sometimes still found on luggage today, but usually made of plastic now.
