Found this today about 6 inches down at a site where I have found a number of CW-related things and an 1832 half dime, but I have no idea what it is and can discern no markings on it. Definitely looks as though it was not mass produced. When I saw the rounded edge in the dirt was hoping for a breastplate! Alas...

Any ideas?

Smashed powder flask?? All though the hole is where it is doesn't make sense to me???

Interesting idea, but I think the piece was mostly flat originally.
