Buddy dug this the other day. It looks to be heavy applied gold on the front received_155610333360033.jpeg received_1018163998999847.jpeg with a brass base and spring like protrusion on the back. Any ideas of what thing is.

Yes, it looks like an upholstery "twist pin", with the pin a bit flattened:

It looks like that if that's right they must have been rich. It's heavy gold and hand decorated then the back has even been gold washed. I'll try to find an example
