I believe the pewter plate commemorates the victories of Lord Nelson, and also his demise. Never heard of one. I believe his ship was "The Invincible". Might be quite a rare find, as is, the Marine cross plate. Pretty impressive! CONGRATS!!!! Hogge

Re: ROYAL MARINE CROSSBELT PLATE & PEWTER PLATE

PLEASE don't delete your posts. I had nominated that Brown Bess for the Banner--and was looking forward to it appearing up top! (I'd love to see your photos one more time...perhaps I could convince you to PM me some pics.)

If folks want to tell you that wood won't hold up on the bottom of a lake for 200 years, then they are a bunch of stupid Jerks. They can ask Woody whether his 1600's ruler, and other wooden items survived in an anaerobic environment. Or they can ask the guy that intact recovered the 2,000 year-old Native American Canoe on the bottom of a lake about how long wood will survive.

When folks do this crap, we ALL lose here. Because the REAL treasure finders will grow tired and stop posting.

Post away--and don't give a crap about what the Jerks say.

I have a hunch I'll be hitting "Banner Recommendation" again for you very soon.

Great finds,

Buckleboy

That is some amazing War of 1812 stuff you are pulling out of the water! Keep posting and if you have some other relics (which I'm sure you do) post 'em up on the My Best Finds forum

I was wondering where the Brown Bess went..... :dontknow:

Re: ROYAL MARINE CROSSBELT PLATE & PEWTER PLATE

Awesome finds! I have found a pewter plate but mine was from 1709 but didnt have any nice writing like that its a great piece. The plate is another awesome find and both in great shape. I would be happy all year with two finds like that. Keep up the great work, cant wait to see what you find next!

Re: ROYAL MARINE CROSSBELT PLATE & PEWTER PLATE

Both very nice finds, with some research it should be easy to find records of such a plate :hello2:
