✅ SOLVED Sabot?

Found this at a camp site. Looks like a sabot but need some opinions. Thanks for looking.

I think the lines on it are "rifling" on a rifled slug, probably 12 gauge. It's really smashed.
A sabot is a small bullet in a larger bore and that does not look like one to me.

It is definitely not the lead sabot from a civil war artillery projectile. I agree with Almy that what looks like rifling is more like what is seen on a rifled shotgun slug.

I’m assuming lead? I don’t see riflings on the item, and it looks 2-3x too large to be a slug. Perhaps some type of sheet lead (plumbing, roofing,etc) that got crumpled/folded. A “normal” foster type 12 ga slug is 1oz. Any ideas what your item weighs?
