Salmon run on the American River, Calif.

These were taken Nov. 4 at the Nimbus Fish Hatchery during the salmon run on the American River.
The hatchery is near Hazel Avenue in Rancho Cordova, CA. The fish are large. This hatchery harvests some of the roe and mixes it up for genetic diversity, then they raise the fish for eventual release.
It was much more fascinating than I ever expected.

Nice. We have those land-locked salmon up here. Do they allow snagging in that area?

They don't allow snagging anywhere in CA. We're lucky if they allow fishing once in a while.
