Salvation Army find - Clinometer

I stopped by the Salvation Army today to pick up a picture frame and saw this old box with an oddball thing inside that I had no clue what it was. It just came in and wasn't priced so I offered $3.00 and they took it. I figured the old dovetail wooden box was worth that much. The neat latches look pretty old to me. Maybe early 1900's? The guy working there said it was a tool for measuring slopes. It still has the original instructions and labels on the box.
I saw some on Ebay, but none were this old or this style.

*Any ideas how old it is?
:icon_scratch:

*How much it's worth?
???

Here is the info I see on it.

M.C. Clinometer
Hilger and Watts Ltd. - London
Brit. Pat #512193
Model #91525

Thanks for any help,
MM

Everything Ive found says they didnt become Hilger and Watts Ltd. until 1948 and changed agian in 1969.

Formed from incorporation of Adam Hilger Ltd.with E.R. Watts Ltd. In 1948, later taken over by the Rank Organisation in 1969.

I know it was a typo, but for search purposes, it should read Clinometer not Clingometer .. there are a bunch of similar ones on ebay.

I did a google search on "Hilger and Watts clinometer in box", then clicked images and came up with all kinds and an image of one without the box.
Saw them anywhere from $120.00 to $1,1000.00
Either way, you got a great find for a great deal! wtg!

Awesome info Taz. Thanks for your help. At least I know it could be as old as 1948 now.

Thanks for catching that typo Rob. I saw some on E-bay, but not the same model #, and the box on mine is a lot older than those were.
No big deal, I bought it to resell anyways.

Thanks so much for looking. I'm going to put mine up on Ebay and see what it brings. I bought it to sell anyways. I would love to keep the box, but of course it will bring more $ if it goes with the deal.
Have a great weekend,
MM
