San Quentin State Prison silver ring ! It's #100 and it's my largest silver ever !

What great three days of hunting ! Tonight was the topper :headbang: . I hunted with EAGLEFORCE tonight for about an hour and a half at a local school . Ryan struck GOLD right away , check out his post . I was finding quarter after quarter for a total of $10.47 ! The sun was down so we started heading back to the trucks . My last target of the hunt would be one of my best ever ! I had a +87 at one inch , I'm hoping for big silver , come on #100 ! It was #100 ring of the year and my largest ever silver ring found in 14 years ! It weighs 18.1 grams of sterling silver . The best part is it's from San Quentin State Prison ! I believe it is a inmates ring , prison made . I still can't believe the things that are found in school fields . Who wore it and why were they on the school grounds . Anyone have any ideas about this ring ?
HH
Glen

Wow, I didnt know inmates were allowed to have jewelry, I guess they probably made some, but it wasnt something they could wear to dinner.

Nice one Glen!

Do you think it may be an honorary guard ring?

Great one at #100!!! :icon_thumleft::thumbsup::icon_thumleft:

Freaking awesome!!! :icon_thumleft:

Man......that is an awesome ring:icon_thumleft:

maybe it was part of the "scared straight" program....given to the kids to remind them to be good and stay out of trouble...lol

Way better than digging one of their home made license plates!

I would imaging it's a guards ring, probably custom made. I'm reasonably sure that an inmate would not be allowed to have it, just think of being punched in the face with it in a fight!

It's a really cool ring though, probably the coolest I've seen on here!

Your Silver finds are getting bigger by the day:hello2: Congrats on one of the coolest Silver rings found! My guess is that it came from the other side of the bars and was worn by a CO.

Wow, very interesting. My step father was a guard at San Quentin in the mid 80's. He passed away on site in Staff housing, just two years shy of retirement. If he was around today, I'm sure he could find out what that ring was about. Super nice find. I'm in Awe by both the historical relevance and size of your find.

Nice unique find. I agree with NOLA Ken, it's a custom made piece for an employee/guard of the prison. Inmates definitely cannot have jewelry and I doubt any former inmate would have a piece like this made to remember the wonderful time they spent inside the walls. You never know though, gang members are a "special" breed and it wouldn't surprise me if some dummy would think it was cool, and had it made as a status type of thing. Street thugs aren't too bright to begin with.
Nonetheless... a very nice one of a kind find! :occasion14:

Maybe it came from the prison gift shop???? (Sorry, just had to...and I'm a newbie)

Awesome ring find,18 grams thats a big one.:icon_thumleft:

Now that's a Nice Ring!

I have a good friend who was a guard in San Quentin back in the late 80's and 1990's . I'm going to call him this weekend and see what he thinks .
It was perfect #100 ring for the year !
Thanks
Glen
