I was googling ancient campsites and caches and so on (cause we all do that when we can’t be out finding) but I noticed a real trend was sand/sand dunes. Why would natives want to be in sand? I only imagine it got EVERYWHERE!! I suppose it could provide a sound barrier and be silent to travel/Hunt in. But I don’t get it. Where are the smart people at? Help me out?

My guess is that the sand dunes were slightly higher than the surrounding flood plain and close to some kind of good resource. And these dunes weren't like what we see in the Sahara Desert, but stable, grassed over dunes.

Water drains fast in sand. Better than camping in mud. Gary
