Saturday's Club Hunt

Maryland FreeState Treasure Club held its monthly club hunt at a Baltimore City park yesterday. I didn't have 'high hopes' of finding anything but was pleased with the variety of targets out there. I hunted for three hours and came up with some minie balls, 1899 IHC, spoon bowl, two bird bands (that I have not been able to id), and an aluminum cap to a bottle of something made by the E. R. Durkee Co. of New York (cap dates from 1900 to 1929).

It's quite possible that the minie balls are not 'native' but leftovers from seeded hunts held years ago.

Way to go! I found the same aluminum ER DURKEE & CO aluminum lid in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho earlier this year. I can't remember what it goes to but it dates to the 1920s. Well done!

Durkee made (makes?) dressings, sauces, spices, etc. Here is a similar lid, with bottle still intact.

Nice finds McCdig. Your 2 bands are likely from racing or homing pigeons. The silver colored one on the left - I think I can see the number 94 or 96 on the right side of it. This would be the year the pigeon was registered, 1994 or 1996. The other letters are for the club or private individual that owned and raced the bird. If you google "how to identify pigeon bands" a whole lot of info comes up, and you will be able to identify the bird and owner. I have actually returned a few, but most people tell me to just keep them.
