Went to a new county park adjacent to a 1939 elementary school. First target dug was a flattened soda can down 12 inches. That told me to move away from the fill. Over to some trees and bam! '23 wheat followed by a quartermaster collar disk (dated late '20s to early '30s). Stayed there long enough to pull three buckles and the brass gear piece. Then over closer to the school I uncovered the brass door strike plate. Had a merry old time digging clad at the school ($2.90) and an occasional wheat. Then I dug a wheat on a signal that ranged 68 to 81, put the plug back in and was still getting an 81 near the edge of the plug; dug a secondary plug and the one I'd just replaced and out came Mr. Slick (SLQ).

That was Tuesday. Yesterday after work I hit a spot I'd recovered an IHC from the 1880s and was working through the can shred when a bouncy 68 to 74 signal yielded a deep target that appears to be a gilt cuff link.

Thanks for checking out the picks!

Nice SLQ McCdig. Slick or not that is always one nice coin to see in a clump of dirt.

Well done sir. SLQs are tough to find. Congrats on that.

Glad to see you out scoring treasure!

Love the SLQ's. Congrats.

Very cool, I like seeing the variety of finds that come from schools and parks. The wheat pennies are always great to find but the SLQ steals the show.
Congrats

Thanks ATW! I got that hunt on video. My reaction to seeing the SLQ was as you'd expect. Probably won't get to that upload until next weekend.

Thanks ScubaDetector! That's the third for me since I got back to detecting in late 2014.

Thanks Tuberale! I like it! What else would it be but a "McSlick" :happysmiley:

Thanks Carolina Tom! That SLQ was elusive at first. Time and again the advice I've heard "always check the hole" has proven true.

Thanks Trezurehunter! I agree. That flash of silver was great to see.

Thanks digger460. Like the "hotspot" clip. I continue to "get blood from a stone" here. No telling what else is here if I were only willing to dig all the trash.

Thanks ddf! I think there must be more at the school. Figure the kids had 25 years to drop silver.

Thanks Jer! The disk had a hint of gilt when I dug it. At home in some lemon juice it was transformed.

Thanks digger dad! Always glad to make an older recovery.

Thanks deershed! Appreciate your comments and stopping by to check out the pics!

Hello Mr. Slick, Congrats on those awesome digs McCDig.:occasion14:
