Primary Interest:
Relic Hunting
Spent yesterday with the wife digging a untouched colonial period site. 28 flat buttons, pewter rosettes, brass rosette, pewter spoon handles, round balls, a few buckles, some ornate buttons, small silver ear ring, silver cuff links, a 1746 brown Bess butt plate piece, and several other misc finds. Four King George coins, only one date is legible 1787. The small piece with the Masonic emblem and bust on the other side may be the find of the day. I'm very curious what this item is and could be valuable due to the age.

If anyone knows what some of the stuff is please feel free to chime in. I know more about civil war relics than colonial period. Thanks for looking!

Looks like you covered it all, congrats

Hi, does the Masonic piece have any holes in the edge? If so it looks like it could be a swivel seal matrix from either a ring or fob.

Jamie

Yes it does have two small divots in each end and it does appear to be what you are referring to. The face also appears to be of African decent and the Masonic emblem represents a master of a masonic lodge. I am going to speaking with a local curator of a museum to see if we can figure out who it belonged to. Due to the age late 1700s early 1800s it may be one of the first African American Masters of a masonic lodge in South Carolina. May take quite a bit of research but I believe the person whom it belonged to can be found. Thanks for the input!

Thanks for all the other input folks, and the ID on the saddle strap guide.

Interesting, hope you manage to link it to an owner

My goodness, what a haul!

Nicely done, and all the best,

Lanny
