Got back to the park I've been hunting on and off now for the past two weeks and pulled a couple of interesting finds! :icon_thumright: For the most part I feel this park has never seen a metal detector as I'm digging a good signal every few feet, mostly pennies though! :laughing7: Unfortunately, no silver coins today :'( , but I did manage to find a Sterling Silver Thimble! This beauty was about 6" down and is really sweet! :o It was made by James Swann of Birmingham, England in 1907.

I found a lot of mid-1940's & '50's pennies, a 1944 & '45 Wheat and a 1943 Canadian 'Victory' Nickel . . . my first. I also found a lot of keys, including a broken skeleton key, a couple of buttons, a 'rusted out' pocket knife and around $2.00 in change. ;D

Thanks for looking and best of luck to you!
Dave

Thanks very much N.J.!

Thanks very much buddy, hope you've been able to get out some this year! :icon_thumright:
I'm in London tonight and will be in Cambridge tomorrow for a couple of hours. Who knows, it's suppose to get up to 4c tomorrow, just might have to hit a park or two in 'your own backyard' eh! :laughing7:

But I'll take it! :D

Glen

Thanks Glen, I too have wanted to find a thimble for a long time!
I did some on-line research of the maker prior to posting and this company is apparently the 'silver thimble' maker to the Royal Family! :o

Best of luck to you this weekend bud! :icon_thumright:

Nice thimble. Funny that pennies seem to show up first. I have been working a site for 2 years. Mostly wheat pennies first, then silver started to trickle in. Have now found over fifty silvers. Moral is ,never give up on a site. Good job.
emesis

I hear what you're saying about the pennies emesis! My Ace 350 hits in the same range on silver as it does on 'pure copper' early pennies, that's why I dig so many of them on every hunt! :laughing7: As you mentioned, you've got to get through the pennies to find the silver!

That thimble is a beauty! I do have to comment on the name "emesis." I worked in healthcare for 11.5 years, and we were never allowed to document that a resident (patient) had an emesis. Only a doctor, and maybe the nurses, could. So a person could puke all over the place and it could only be described by us laypersons as an "apparent emesis." Nothing against using it as a name, mind you; it just brought that memory flooding back ;D.

Thanks for posting halfdime, best of luck to you!

I still can't believe I found something of this age in a park that likely dates to the late 30's or early 40's!
Somebody must have brought their sewing to do at the park back in the 40's or 50's while their kids played and then lost it in the grass! :icon_scratch: Now, here it is found by me 60 years later . . . I love this hobby! :laughing7:

Dave, great hunt, and I love the thimble!!! I'm sure the story is exactly the way you said, someone was sewing in the park while watching their kids. Breezie

Thanks very much for your post Breezie! I like to think that there's a story behind everything I find, it makes it more personal that way. :icon_thumright:

Take care, Dave

Maybe next summer buddy, it'd be nice to get together with someone like yourself that knows the KW area. There's a lot of history down your way and I bet you know a few good sites eh!

Take care man,
Dave

That thimble is simply beautiful ::)

Never got a silver one :dontknow:

Nice digs

Yep the thimble is a definate keeper. Congratulations!

Am I the only one who noticed the Ireland motif on it? Harp? 4-leaf clovers? Could we maybe see the other side too?

And the skeleton key is worth at least a nod, at least from me.

I, too, feel you may have a virgin site. Go slow and careful. You'd be surprised how many great finds hide under the overlap of even a good coil.

Now I'd like to find a pewter or brass thimble, but if all I can find is another silver one, that's OK too! :laughing7:
