What is left? All these old casinos have been biting the dust over the past few years and winding up on tv shows about building demolition!
Are there any of the old classic casinos still in existence? The Horseshoe? Ceasars Palace is still there isn't it?
Oh yeah, there are still a lot of originals left. Caesars, Flamingo, Sahara, Riviera, Tropicana, Circus Circus and a lot of new ones, Paris, MGM Grand, Bellagio, Excalibur, Mirage, New York New York, Rio, The Palms, Luxor, etc.
Downtown's casinos were all small properties and some still survive, Golden Nugget, Horseshoe, Fremont, etc. but some have closed, The Mint, Lady Luck.
Gone are the Hacienda (now Mandalay Bay), Dunes (now Bellagio), Desert Inn (now Wynn-Las Vegas), Sands (now the Venetian), Landmark (now a parking lot), El Rancho (now a highrise condo project), Aladdin (imploded in 1998 and a new Aladdin built on the site).
More than half the big hotels that were here when I moved here in 1985 are history.
