Hello All,
End of year equaled a massive amount of work. God Bless teachers and administrators that work in public education.

Since March, when my business really picks up, I only worked 4 boxes of halves per week with an occassional dime and nickel box thrown in. Skunk boxes galore. Only thing that saved me were the once-in-a-while CWRs. I was so silver starved that I almost bought halves on ebay.

Friday was graduation. I began work at 6:30 AM and did not return home until 5:15 the next morning. We have a lock-in for our seniors at the high school which is great for the kids . . . but a killer for the adults. :laughing7:

I finally dragged myself home and slept a few hours. When I awoke, Mr. Apush had surprised me with 7 boxes of halves, 2 boxes of dimes, and 3 boxes of nickels (and a 12 pack of Modelo Especial with extra limes). He called it my "down-time."

So, I finally hit a bit of silver. Completed 5 boxes thus far out of the 7:
8--90% (including a 54 Ben)
15-40%
1-Clad Columbus Comm (1992)--first Comm in a very long while.

Not much as compared to the massive finds posted here, but I will take it.

Summer School starts Monday.

HSH,
apush

Glad you're getting some hard earned down time and silver APUSH!

Hope Summer brings you some silver for sure!

Nice to see you post. Hope you enjoy the summer. HH and find alot of silver!!

Apush, some well deserved boxes indeed, hope the other 2 half dollar boxes produce just as well as the first 5!

Unfortunately she is an AP/P at a high school. They are scheduled to work all but 15 - 20 days of the year when you count summer school. Her summers are pretty short.

Now that's what I call a good way to spend your down time! Great boxes too makes the negro model taste that much better

I've seen the salaries those people make, I don't feel bad for them. That extra money could buy plenty of silver, way more than I'd ever hope to find in a summer.

LOL on "the salaries those people make." I needed a good-hearted laugh for the day. :)

Maybe you should walk a mile in their shoes, better yet 10 feet. Eight to Ten years of college, numerious inservice classes and 12 - 14 hour work days. I do not begrudge them one penny and neither
should you, either your kids have or will attend a public school. We will talk then....

I get by on 40k a year after 5 years of school. One of my old teachers who is now a good friend became a principal after I left. Know what he told me? I'm paraphrasing here, but... "Way easier than teaching, the workload is about the same, but I don't have to deal with the kids hardly ever, just with parents." He had a bachelors and went back for a masters in education, then got his job as principal less than a year after graduating. First year on the job he pulled down something around $90k.

No offense was intended and we're getting OT here, so I'm just going to leave it at that.

Well, you can go to a private school or be homeschooled.

Private schools are far more expensive then public education and Homeschool children miss out on the interaction with their peers.

Merc Crazy, no offense taken.

I feel your pain, I've had nine years of college, two bachelors degrees and a PhD, and am still dead broke. Got a job earning what I'd say is a mid-middle class salary, with a heck of a lot of debt. My degrees are all in chemistry too, it's just that academia doesn't pay a heck of a lot. It's all about doing what you love

Well, I have 3 degrees, a BA, and two MA's: one in American 20th century history and one in education administration. I would like to add that I have over $50,000 in debt for graduate school and that is one heck of a payment every month. I could only wish I made 90K per year, but here in Texas, we don't get paid squat-doodlee. It is for the love of the kids is why most teachers/administrators do what we do. Like any job, there are bad apples, but for the most part it is in the "heart." I understand what Mr. Merc is saying--there are lots of districts that shell out the big dough--but not my socio-economically disadvantaged school.

Freedom--glad to see you posting.

Now for CRH: last 3 dime boxes produced 2 Roosies and 2 Mercs and 1 box of nickels produced 1 ragged war.

HSH,

I lived in TX for awhile, love it there. But yea there are a lot of towns without a lot of money for public education
