Thanks Jim-
That's exactly what I was thinking. I find it hard to believe that NOBODY dug under those things before recently. I did see something else on another site saying something about researchers knowing they continued much further down into the ground as far back as 1919. Maybe it just didn't make a lot of press at that time.

Interesting...never heard of that. Hard to believe some of the things humans did, back in the old days. All done with hand tools, too....at least as far as we know.

They had Thousands of years to get things accomplished.
Keep digging you'll never know what you'll find at the end.

I'm wondering if they should have stopped digging once they uncovered a body? :dontknow:

Scientists have known the heads had bodies since the first excavation in 1914.

Many of the figures are totally uncovered and freestanding already.

The famous "heads" are in one location on a volcano slope.

I've got to wonder if the ancient people would have gone to all that trouble in covering them up if they would have known we would go to all that trouble to dig 'em up.

I hear one of them was wearing underoos!!!! LOL.. That is too cool that there is more to them than first thought. and that no one thought to dig down to find out until now

Like Gordon said - this has been known a LONG time. The British Museum has a full torso Moai it stole, er, rescued in 1869.

Some are still in the quarry so they have always known they had bodies.

Gordon & Charlie P-
Strange that the writer of the article would make it sound as if they JUST found out about this info. I admit, when I first read it, it didn't sound quite right. How would they not have fully excavated at least 1 or 2 of these right from day one?! They wouldn't be doing their jobs had they not. Still, a fun article. The real question here is (and maybe the beginning to a fun & interesting debate): what purpose did these "heads" serve? I know what the "scholars" say....but what is the REAL reason?!!

All the best-
J.A.

I still wonder if they dug under the Pyramids they may find they are just Roofs on
a Very large Castle :laughing7: or a childs ancient lego's project
