There is a small area known as Great Crossing. It is on US 227 north of US460 and west of Georgetown. There is a small store there now owned by the Hafley's right at the small dam and the bridge that crosses Elkhorn creek. The only thing there is the small store and several houses. The place was founded in 1783 by Robert Johnson at the buffalo crossing at N.Elkhorn creek, hence the name "Great Crossing".There was a post office there in operation from 1811-1905.There was an old schoolhouse(abandoned) there as well the last time I was there 2 years ago.Anybody ever been there?

Hoping to do a little family research in Scott County...I'll have to see if I can find this place. Sounds interesting. Happy Hunting. Dan

My wifes cousen lives in that small town, on the creek. close to the old dam.
She also has a brother that lives down the road close by. the house he lives in is a 1700s plantation home.
used to have slave corters on back.
I have metal detected it three or four times and not really found any thing much.

I like the area of Georgetown
