Right now prices for scrap steel and iron are falling pretty hard across the country. Here in Chattanooga, Tennessee they have fallen about half from a previous high 8 cents a pound to 4. I talked to a manager at Commercial Metals Recycling in Chattanooga and he said the price will probably fall some more in the next couple of months. The culprit is a slowing economy and too much scrap metal in stock in the recycling yards across the country. Now the good news is that prices for copper, brass, diecast, aluminum, lead, and stainless are very good and very steady. If you want to pick up some news about what's going in with metal prices there is a free website called www.metalsplace.com which offers news stories on all the different metals and mining. Its free and very interesting. Regards, Chris Hyder.
