Found a small patch of land on the edge of a field which was bird cover. Its recently been ploughed so even though we have done it before, it was worth a try.

Pleased we did as after 2 hours (4 man hours) we had a few interesting finds.

broken scrappy roman coin
1911 halfpenny

A new type of Livery button with a slave trade era image
Very Rare pewter 1780s military button with a lion - this too is a new type, still need to id it but these are so rare that I'm unlikely to find an image on the internet.

Very please with a rare 17th century token, sent images to a book writing friend to record & ID.

UPDATE;

Just IDed the token in my book.

1666 halfpenny token of William Flower who was a Tollman.

Those are some very interesting finds. Like the button with the slave trade image. Also the half penny token is a special find. That was a excellent day's hunt.

I like the small token, always some fun trying to ID them.

My contact gave me pictures of a better conditioned one from his collection, so you can see the detail:

Hi Crusader, is contact Roger Paul ?.

CRUSADER, very nice pieces!

Was that "Tollman" 1/2-penny token considered an "official" type of mint issue coin?

Take care & good luck hunting,

No they were illegal. However the government were unable to fill the gap in small change so they turned a blind-eye for 50 years.
