screaming devil? very old scary dude must see

Found this at a very old colonial site. measures about 3 inches tall and no sign of any screw bolt holes on back. Not sure what it was used for is it Chinese or German? any ideas would help , very neat item. Thanks Mark HH

Avatar is great...but it will also work for a nice tattoo.

aeolus is the god of the wind in greek mythology. looks similar.
tawhiri the maori god of the wind has the same mouth.
