Brass butt cap....sometimes used on flagstaffs......but wait.this type is from an a handle on civil war knives....I believe ???

Uh....It looks like a brass ground wire keeper to me. You stick the ground wire through the hole in the side and screw it down on your ground rod, keeps it from coming loose.....or not? Monty

howi through the hat: looks like a old school welding tip bushing (?) you thread the welding tip into it and it onto the fuel source, the holes provide oxygen.

We have found a bunch of these things in the middle of civil war sites also....this one is really worn.....

The plot thickens! The only reason that I find this peculiar is the fact that we found two of them in the same field but almost a quarter mile apart. What are the odds?...

I know that the one I have seen on a bowie knife once , was threaded...I can't find an example bowie to show you, the one I saw was one we had sold awhile back.Still looking!
