Scuba with the Excal 1000 in a volcanic lake in El Salvador, video & pics

I was invited by a one friend who said that I might have some luck with the Excal at this spot that is around 60 feet down (actually 63 feet). The area used to be on the surface but fell into the lake during an earthquake. Lago Ilopango is over 700 feet deep in some spots and is actually a volcanic lake. This area has produced coins that they found on top of the sand or rocks in the past. People used to go to the island to throw coins there for religious reasons. There is a large cross down there too that fell in with the earth quake. The offerings were so that the volcano wouldn't erupt again.

But as I have had little luck lately, actually it was a dive just for fun so I wasn't really thinking I would find anything, I did find a few bomb fragments from a M-79 grenade and one 30 cal. bullet. M-79 grenades are a type of grenade that is actually shot out to a certain distance, not thrown like a hand grenade. They are relics from the civil war down here.

Thanks mcmurphi and mumszie. I have to plan some more adventures soon.

I wish I could buy a housing for my video camera but $1000 is just too much. The Sealife camera seems to do a good job with video. For pictures you have to get really close to the subject matter. It might be that way with all underwater cameras, it's my first so I'm still learning.

There is another place that I would like to try, but it won't be until June.

Thanks again.

Thanks Rick and Bill.

See you guys on the beach next week.

Here's another video if anybody wants to see them of just scuba diving at 85 feet and 60 feet in the same lake.
