I got out for a few hours today with my digging buddy, Repo Archeologist. One of my first finds was a corroded ring. I cleaned it at home and looked at the Hallmark. It says "S. R. & CO 14K. Researched it on line and came up with Sears Roebuck and Company. I did not know that they had Gold Plated Jewelry made and engraved with their company name. Somebody forgot the G.P. for Gold Plating.

Good finds. You might try scraping off the crud on that ring. It may be 14K, the inside looks pretty good. 14 parts gold out of 24. The other 10 parts may be causing the corrosion.

Hey ATW...she's a little crusty rusty...but I'm sure anybody here would trade in a few pull-tabs to dig one just like it...like Kray sez...scrape'er off and see what's hiding under there..Congrats..Ddf.

I'll give that a try but I'm pretty sure it is costume jewelry.

You sure that is gold plated? Looks like a early 20's hallmark..Very cool find..I'm betting its gold and not plated by the hall mark. I dig alot of gold rings, not uncommon for one to be in ruff shape..

Ok, a closer look and I think your correct..strange hallmark for I would have sworn it was gold, maybe a rolled gold, or hand laid.

I dug one last week that was rusty, I put it in the pouch and went on hunting thinking it was a junk ring. Got home and seen the hallmark and started cleaning it, had to be one of the hardest rings Ive every found to clean, rusted bad..but she cleaned up nice..OBN0007.webpand he is 10k...

You guys got me giving it 2 or 3 looks.
I'm going to let it soak in lemon juice over night and see what happens.

I agree it looks like 14kt. to me too. Nice find A.T.W. Congratulations.

Wow, Sears really did sell everything ! Nice find ATW. Hope it fairs out well after its lemon juice bath.

I've never seen a corroded gold ring before, I may have just learned something.
