Season 5

Those are Templars bones left from the Aztec sacrifice rituals

Surface grave disturbed by Dunfield when he pushed the tailings back into his excavations to fill the hole.

IF they were human and IF they were old. Perhaps the University folks are just actors as well?

Is Rick real? Is Marty real? Does Oak Island exist, or is it just a Hollywood set hidden among the hills of California? I haven't seen anyone prove that Oak Island even exists yet.

We have carbon dated human bones from the 1600's. Let's start with that.
They were pretty small and deteriorated fragments. I have seen other question how valued the dating and origin could actually be.

My first thoughts were if they were bones they could be from the remains of Maynard Kaiser his body was lost in the pit and reportedly never recovered. (good article https://www.oakislandcompendium.ca/...llapse-the-mysterious-death-of-maynard-kaiser ).

Even if the claim made on the show was true re age and origin it is pretty difficult to draw much conclusion from this. They dug down to bed rock in the area where the drill hole found the bone fragments. No more bones/skeleton were found. Why would only such tiny pieces of bone be there and not the rest of the skeleton. They could of come from the surface area and have been bulldozed back in to the ground by Dunfeild. It may also be someone dumped a body down there to get rid of it. There is also very little documented evidence of the early searchers but one imagines that death by drowning could of easily happened. look how quick the water came up to 30 feet from 70 feet in there last drill shaft.

I would like to see some corroborating evidence of their claimed dating etc before believing it as fact. They have a habit of only showing things that support their treasure theories. I wonder what else they were told.

Oak Island is there. Certainly Skip and Marty are human; probably even own a construction company. Most definitely they are having their activities scheduled and sequenced by the show's producers; and also the guest spots are likely interviewees the shows producers arrange for their TV qualities more than archaeological or technical skill.

Once-in-a-lifetime Bucket List dream of one brother . . . is now in it's sixth season and a spin off series of some other "quest" comes along.

Working their way to Oregon to hunt for bigfoot as the next adventure.

But - good news. The History Channel actually aired a pretty historical program on the Men Who Built America and it was interesting and informative. There may be hope.

This has not been mentioned yet but I believe Brother XII buried some of his Mason Jars of Gold on Oak Island and I am pretty sure I can lead the Fellowship to the Gold!
This is NOT a crackpot theory.
I have proof! If I get the chance, we will all be rich!

Count me in on the search party....

As far as the discovery of the bones is concerned, you cannot really say WHERE they came from. If you are excavating down by hand, then you do know a precise stratigraphy from where the bones came...at X feet this was found. Because they are boring down on a massive scaled and then using a scoop to essentially take out back fill, you have no idea where it came from. It could be from 5 feet down, but kept falling down as the scoop didn't grab it. The only thing you really can say about the bones is the age. This is where archaeological methods come into play.

If this were my show, my plan of attack would be to locate the box drains that supposedly were uncovered before. Once you find them, if they truly exist, you follow them to the pit. My rule of thumb for this show is that I know at the end of the season they will NOT have discovered the alleged treasure. If they had, they would not be able to keep that under wraps for months and months. I like this show because I get to watch people do what most of us would like to do...go on a massive treasure hunt and play in the dirt.

You are in for sure! Bring your diggin gear and help me count the GOLD!!

True, so true!

As long as we don't have to listen to the narrator.......may have to strangle him with gawaay's spandex....

I am very surprised that more bone fragments were not unearthed with the big"hammer grab" . That would have narrowed the location to a couple of feet at least as far as depth.

i was thinking about that also, how does one know exactly how far down were those bones. I guess to some degree it would depend on how well the scoop fits into the sides of the bore hole.the better it fit the more likely something would come from the level you would think it would... And your premise as to why you watch the show is excellent, I wish more people could sit back and take it at face value and not get all out of joint over it. Would you tunnel down these box drains or strip it like in strip mining ?

By finding the source of the drains, might it be possible to head the water off ?

With the wet environment on the island, bones buried in the soil deteriorate over time. The rest of the skeletons may be dust by now...

If these alleged box drains existed and were substantial structures like the graphics they show throughout the series suggest (and not just French drains) I'd excavate from the mouth and follow them as much as possible. Presuming they exist, they would most likely dive down in elevation, so at some point you couldn't go further due to depth. That being said, if when you excavate it as far as possible and if it runs straight, it should lead you straight to the shaft. Since the island has been torn apart, I think that may be one of the most likely ways to find the original shaft. It also would be a way to at least stop that flood tunnel system. I used to be an archaeologist, so that would be my plan of attack. Dropping shafts just seems like a hail Mary to me. Also, I don't remember which brother, but he thinks there may be documents down there. If that is so, they are going to be flooded out just drilling down.

Wouldn't a GPR be able to help ? Sure, the island is riddled with holes, but the GPR should show a distinction between a "hole" versus a trench or drain type construction ?

Stop trying to make this a sensible search instead of a multi-season TV reality show. Jeez. Where is the advertizing dollar profit in saying "Nope. Nothing here."?

Seriously - that island has been turned over 15 times in the last 200 years. You'd need to go down 150 ft to find undisturbed soil. And likely it was undisturbed in 1799 to begin with.

The entire area around Smith’s cove has been dug many, many, times by a multitude of folks looking for treasure. Remains of a fishing operation/area salt processing/ something was found. However NO tunnels went beyond the beach towards the fictional money pit hole. The show is just repeating what many others have done years ago just to fill episodes while hoping the bulk of their audience doesn’t study up on oak island and what actually has been done to date...
