SEATED SILVER and CIVIL WAR Group T-net Hunt

We had another fantastic outing courtesy of Smokey. It was a rough day with heavy rain, wind gust and 10lbs mud boots but once again everyone managed several good relics including silver coins. We all put in about 4 hours on top the mountains. Walking half dollar, 2 capped bust dimes, crotal bells, lead bullets and some other 19th century coins were discovered by the others. I managed to find knap sack pieces, J hook, tent gromets, tree pendant, a beautiful 1858 seated quarter dollar, my first Williams cleaner ( and it was dropped), some misc items, a Riflemen Eagle button and the find of the day a US BOX PLATE. My third plate off this site. And we thought it was hunted out. LOL Thanks for looking GL & HH

Great hunt. Sometimes those box plates rupture and crack when the iron attachments rust. Also a nice cleaner you found! Congrats

Recovering just the super cool old relics would suffice for my hunting satisfaction but, adding a very nice large Seated Quarter is like serving some rich delicious CHEESECAKE after Christmas dinner! Kudos to you and your hearty mates to trudge through some serious adversity to get these amazing coins and relics. Tenacity PAYS!

It was a lot of fun. Being bored, I went back to the site for a couple hours this am and was able to drive My XP Deus bearing EQUINOX across the field. (Sorry, couldn't help it.) It is very windy there, and conditions had dried things up I could drive all over the place, with a couple exceptions. I was relatively excited to try newly granted permission on the same site, the wide tree planted strips along the main driveway. A No. 5 crotal bell was found just next to this area last week, as was a Revolutionary War American artillery button, which was mind blowing. One gentleman found a very large rose head nail. We still can't find where the house was. I did get a quarter and dime, both modern, aluminum, an 18th century fired small caliber musket ball and a very, very nice...item I will post in a new thread once I get settled in and start to clean it up. I was looking for more crotal bells in the grass strip, did not find any, but did get a ...

My finds from yesterday! A large Rose head spike, 1853 Seated Dime, a Laser, shell casings, and other do-dads.

You missed a spot on the top of your head. No mud there. The field dried out today and I took my XP Deus in my Equinox (hope you got the pun) and tore off across the fields to the high spots on the other side of the farm. Didn't get much over there except two spent modern bullets and a clad Roosevelt dime. I then drove back to where we parked and decided to look where we had parked. There were quite a few targets there, mostly aluminum cans from where the landscapers were putting the trees in 15 years ago, I suppose. Also aluminum foil, some farm iron, several brass modern bullet casings, a couple pieces of junk whatzits and I was just about to quit and went over the last of the areas we had all parked, got a clad quarter and got this. Looks like one of us had parked on top of it. It is my FIRST US Buckle and I think I cleaned it a little too much. Lots of people said use Renaissance wax, but it took some of the toning off of it. However, I think the wax will evaporate over time.

The site has produced three breastplates, the eagle version, two US cartridge box plates which now of course includes Darryl's from the one hilltop , this new US belt buckle which we had parked on, one Confederate "I" button, One US "R" rifleman's button, about 8 eagle buttons and 1 NY button, four capped bust dimes, about three seated quarters, about 5 seated dimes, two coin caches, late 19th to early 20th century, two crotal bells, maybe 10 pieces to knapsacks from the civil war, and about 90 minie balls plus a scattering of Indian cents and wheaties and modern clad. We also got one Rev War button, a handful of plain buttons, some horseshoes and misc. brass items. Yesterday I got a fired round ball, probably predates the Civil War and could be colonial, I have found two of these. I also found a William Wannaker aluminum token allowing someone to get his suit pressed free but only in the winter season 1908-1909. I guess we missed out on that sale. It has been a great site, but I walked quite a distance yesterday, and except for thinking "out of the box" the targets have disappeared. Wonder why....we have 100 man hours on the farm digging so far. There should be more there., but it's going to be tough going. In the mix are also at least 100-200 modern fired bullets. The modern bullets breed there.
